i came across this video, which is alright, but the poem itself was awe-dropping:
i'm no cultural revolutionary that actively speaks out against discrimination of any kind, or parade around as a walking talking contradiction of races- maybe because i'm partially naive to the reality of the world we live in, but i do recognize and respect the passion that springs from his voice as he machine guns the message of the state of minority women. (in other words, damn that was some slam!) i'm always so in envy of people's amazing talents that it makes me want to get to know them. not in the biblical sense though.
speaking of amazing talents, my friend sonia (who is also an amazing talent of the arts) talked to the whole game night crew about wanting to be included in the LA Times crossword puzzle someday, and that she fell in love with Will Shortz (crossword puzzle editor for the NY Times- for those of you who don't listen to kcrw or any NPR affiliated station) in the documentary 'Wordplay'. she thinks he's "not a bad looking man", which means an A+ for geeks. apparently her first cousin turns out to be a famous ER cast member, whose name i cannot disclose, but for the sake of reference it sort of rhymes with Boa Mylie. and he was a clue on a Times crossword puzzle. hopefully one day they'll write a clue hatching the phrase "Most Grammy-nominated-but-never-actually-won producer of music" or of some sort.
this year is turning out pretty good (and i've noticed that the past three entries were on the 12th day of each month- perhaps some bad luck to break the cycle?), and i'm ready to accept success or defeat every step of the way. hopefully this past submission to *bleep* will get his attention and break me into the circle of more prominent producers in the industry. knock on wood.

*update* due to some communication error between the club promoter and the Viper Room, we are not able to perform a full live band set (only acoustic). i apologize for anyone who planned on coming, especially since i would have had the highest turn out of ppl/friends this time around. i will put up a notice for the date of the next rescheduled show sometime in the near future.
first off, i'd like to say happy bday to myself, an old old 28 yrs old i've become. i'm just glad that it didn't rain as was forecasted by weather.com. and now onto the more important announcement:
$10 cover- i'll be performing (along with a bassist and a drummer- that's right- all completely LIVE!) so for the sake of my bday (and i KNOW some of you don't have work on MLK Monday), come out, support us and hope you'll enjoy the show!
i had to order new blank CDs to burn more mixdowns of what we're going to perform for the show, and it just hit me that FedEx is just crazy. take a look at the tracking page of my shipment:
come on guys, efficiency is KEY- City of Industry is right next to Hacienda Heights; no need to drive all the way to Bloomington?? shouldn't you've figured that out already?
here's the flyer for the show at the Derby:
just print out, cut out, bring to the door and you'll get in for $8.
go see the Departed- hands down the best movie of the year! (don't watch if you're a bit squeamish to violence.)
